FAQ

Answers to common questions, plus what every plugin on the server lets you do.

Getting Started
How do I get back to the lobby?β–Ά

Use the command below at any time to return to the server lobby.

  • /lobbyTeleport to the server lobby
How do I set a home and teleport to it?β–Ά

Homes let you save a location and warp back to it instantly. The number of homes you can set is tied to your rank β€” see Ranks & Perks.

  • /sethome [name]Save your current location as a home
  • /home [name]Teleport to a home
  • /homesList your homes
  • /delhome [name]Delete a home
How do I message or teleport to other players?β–Ά
  • /msg <player> <message>Send a private message
  • /r <message>Reply to the last person who messaged you
  • /tpa <player>Request to teleport to a player
  • /tpahere <player>Ask a player to teleport to you
  • /tpaccept / /tpdenyAccept or deny an incoming request
What's the details on the side of my screen?β–Ά

That's the TAB scoreboard β€” it shows handy info like your rank, balance, and other player stats at a glance. If it's in your way, you can toggle it off (and back on) at any time.

  • /sbToggle the scoreboard on/off
Where can I see a live map of the server?β–Ά

The Earth map is viewable live in your browser β€” no plugin or mods needed.

Chat & Communication
I can't see chat messages, or my messages aren't showing up β€” what's wrong?β–Ά

This is almost always a Minecraft client setting, not a bug. Globeworks uses plugins (EssentialsXChat and TownyChat) to format and route chat across servers, and this means messages aren't sent with Mojang's cryptographic "secure chat" signature. If your client is set to hide unsigned messages, chat will look empty or broken.

In your Minecraft chat settings, set:

  • ChatShown
  • Only Show Secure ChatOff

See the next question for why this is required and why it's safe to turn off.

Why isn't Globeworks chat "secure," and is that a risk?β–Ά

Mojang's secure chat system cryptographically signs each message on your client so the receiving client can verify it came from you, unmodified. That only works if the server relays your message byte-for-byte.

Globeworks can't do that, because every message passes through plugins that add prefixes, colours, and channel formatting (town/nation tags, rank prefixes, etc.), and because Bedrock players connect through Geyser, which doesn't support Java's chat signing at all. Reformatting the message breaks the signature, so Java clients with "Only Show Secure Chat" on will silently filter it out.

In practice, this isn't a security vulnerability you need to worry about β€” it doesn't expose your account, password, or any personal data. The theoretical risk is that a malicious server could forge messages that appear to come from another player, since the signature isn't there to disprove it. We mitigate this the same way most cross-platform networks do:

  • TrustOnly join servers you trust to relay chat honestly β€” this is standard for any Bedrock-compatible or heavily chat-modded network
  • ModerationAll chat is logged and moderated, with AdvancedBan enforcing our rules against impersonation or abuse
What's the difference between global chat and town chat?β–Ά
  • /g <message>Send a message to everyone on the server, regardless of town
  • /t <message>Send a message visible only to your town members
  • /n <message>Send a message visible to your nation (if your town belongs to one)
  • /toggle townchatSwitch your default (unprefixed) chat between global and town

Just typing a message with no slash command sends to global chat by default β€” that's the same as using /g. If you've switched your default with /toggle townchat, plain messages go to town chat instead, and you'll need /g to reach everyone.

Can I mute or filter certain chat channels?β–Ά
  • /ignore <player>Stop seeing messages from a specific player
  • /msgtoggleToggle whether you receive private messages

Town and nation channels are only visible to their members by default, so there's nothing extra to mute there.

Land, Towns & Nations
How do towns and land claiming work?β–Ά

Globeworks uses Towny for land ownership and community-building on the Earth map. Found or join a town to claim plots, build with others, and unlock town perks.

  • /town create <name>Found a new town
  • /town join <name>Ask to join an existing town
  • /town spawn <name>Teleport to a town's spawn
  • /town claimClaim the plot you're standing on for your town
  • /residentView your Towny resident info
  • /townView your town's info

Your rank on the ladder (Explorer β†’ Emperor) affects what you can do in Towny β€” see Ranks & Perks.

Can I team up with other towns?β–Ά

Yes β€” towns can form or join a nation for shared benefits and alliances.

  • /nation create <name>Found a new nation (town owners only)
  • /nation join <name>Request your town joins a nation
  • /nationView your nation's info
What are sieges?β–Ά

SiegeWar lets nations contest and capture enemy town land through organised sieges rather than free-for-all raiding. A nation starts a siege by placing a war banner near the border of an enemy town β€” from that point, both sides fight for control of the banner.

Fighting only counts during scheduled Battle Sessions (weekends β€” 60 minutes each), not around the clock. Holding the banner, or landing a kill in the siege zone, earns your side points; whoever has the most points when the siege ends wins. A losing town can be invaded, occupied, and plundered β€” but new towns and towns that recently survived a siege get a week of immunity.

You automatically keep your inventory if you die in an active siege zone, though your gear takes a small durability hit.

  • /t toggle peacefulToggle your town's peaceful status (full siege immunity, with trade-offs β€” see below)
  • /sw spawn <town>Spawn on your side's Battle Commander, if one has been assigned
  • /sw nation paysoldiers <amount>Nation owner only β€” pay your nation's soldiers from the nation bank

Going peaceful makes your town immune to siege attacks, but residents can't hold military ranks, and β€” if a much stronger nation controls the largest nearby non-peaceful town β€” a peaceful town can be instantly captured ("subverted") instead of properly sieged. Peaceful status takes a week to fully confirm, so it can't be flipped on and off to dodge an attack.

Is there a dedicated chat for my town or nation?β–Ά

Yes β€” TownyChat gives every town and nation its own chat channel.

  • /tc <message>Send a message to your town chat
  • /nc <message>Send a message to your nation chat
Are rank promotions automatic?β–Ά

You are automatically promoted from Explorer to Citizen the moment you found or join a town. To move to other ranks, you need to purchase from the points shop /pointshop or via the online store found in the menu above

What is TownyIgnore?β–Ά

Some switches, buttons, levers, and similar blocks around the server (and inside towns) are set up so that anyone at or above a certain rank can use them, even if you're not a resident or trusted member of that town. This is used for shared infrastructure, event builds, and other blocks meant to work for a wider group of players regardless of who owns the land they're on.

How do I use a block set up with TownyIgnore?β–Ά

There's nothing special to type or run β€” you just interact with the block normally:

  1. Walk up to the button, lever, pressure plate, or other configured block.
  2. Right-click it (or step on it, for pressure plates) exactly as you would anywhere else.
  3. If your rank meets the threshold that's been set on that block, it activates immediately β€” no message, no menu, it just works even though you're not trusted in that town.
  4. If your rank doesn't meet the threshold, the block simply behaves as normal Towny-protected β€” you'll get Towny's usual "you don't have permission" message instead.

The permission check happens automatically in the background, so using one of these blocks feels identical to using any block in your own town.

How do I know if a block has rank-based access set up before I try it?β–Ά

Blocks with a TownyIgnore setting show a small particle effect every couple of seconds, so they're easy to spot at a glance without needing to test them. No particles usually means no special access is configured β€” normal Towny rules apply.

I have the right rank but the block still isn't working for me β€” why?β–Ά

Double check you're right-clicking (or stepping on) the actual switch block itself rather than a nearby door or decorative block β€” TownyIgnore is tied to the specific block it was configured on. If it's still not working, reach out to staff so they can check the block's configured threshold.

Can I set this up myself on my own town's blocks?β–Ά

Configuring TownyIgnore thresholds (running /townyignore on a block to set who can use it) is limited to specific ranks. If you'd like a block in your town opened up to a wider group of players, get in touch with staff and they can help set it up.

How do I set up a redstone activator using TownyIgnore?β–Ά

If your rank has TownyIgnore permissions, you can open up a switch, button, plate, lever, or similar block so that a wider group of players can use it, regardless of Towny trust. Here's how:

  1. Build your redstone setup first. Place the block you want to act as the activator β€” a button, lever, pressure plate, tripwire hook, lectern, trapped chest, or chiseled bookshelf β€” and wire up whatever it should trigger (a door, piston gate, dispenser, etc.) as normal.
  2. Stand where you can look directly at the activator block (the button/lever/plate itself, not the door or mechanism it triggers).
  3. Run the command:
    /townyignore

    (aliases: /ti, /tignore)

  4. Pick a rank from the GUI. A menu will open showing the available ranks in order. Choose the lowest rank you want to be able to use the block β€” everyone at that rank or higher will be able to activate it, even without being a resident or trusted in that town.
  5. Done. The block will now periodically show a small particle effect to mark it as configured, and it's ready to use immediately β€” no restart or reload needed.

Note: only certain materials can be configured this way (buttons, pressure plates, levers, tripwire hooks, lecterns, trapped chests, and chiseled bookshelves) β€” other blocks won't accept a TownyIgnore setting.

How do I change or remove the rank on a TownyIgnore block?β–Ά

Look at the block again and run /townyignore β€” since it already has a setting, the GUI will let you either pick a different rank or clear the setting entirely. Clearing it restores normal Towny protection, so only the town's own trusted residents can use it from then on.

Nation Diplomacy
How do alliances and wars between nations work?β–Ά

Nations can be Neutral, Allied, or at War with each other. A nation leader (or anyone with permission) manages this with /diplomacy:

  • /diplomacy alliance propose <nation> β€” offer an alliance
  • /diplomacy alliance accept <nation> / deny <nation> β€” respond to an offer
  • /diplomacy alliance break <nation> β€” end an alliance, or cancel a proposal you sent
  • /diplomacy war declare <nation> β€” go to war with a nation
  • /diplomacy peace propose <nation> / accept <nation> β€” end a war

Alliances and peace both need agreement from both sides β€” one nation proposing isn't enough, the other has to accept.

How do I check who my nation is allied with or at war with?β–Ά

Use /diplomacy status <nation> to check your relationship with one specific nation, or /diplomacy list to see all of your own nation's current wars and alliances at a glance.

Can anyone attack any town at any time?β–Ά

No β€” sieges (planting a banner to attack a town) are only allowed between nations that are officially at War. If your nation is Neutral or Allied with another, their towns can't be sieged, and yours can't be sieged by them either. Declare war first with /diplomacy war declare if you want to open up sieging.

What happens to an ongoing siege if we make peace?β–Ά

Once both sides accept a peace proposal with /diplomacy peace accept, any active sieges between those two nations end immediately β€” the relationship changes to Neutral straight away, so fighting can't continue under a peace agreement.

Economy & Trading
How do I check my balance and pay other players?β–Ά
  • /balanceCheck your money
  • /pay <player> <amount>Send money to another player
  • /pointsCheck your points balance (a secondary currency used for some rewards)
How do I buy and sell items?β–Ά

The server shop covers common items at set prices:

  • /shopOpen the server shop GUI
  • /sellguiOpen a GUI to Sell items
  • /sellallSell all sellable items in your inventory

Players can also set up their own shop signs on chests to buy/sell directly with other players β€” place a sign on a chest to configure one.

Is there a player auction house?β–Ά

Yes β€” list items for other players to buy. How many listings you can have at once depends on your rank β€” see Ranks & Perks.

  • /ahOpen the auction house
What are crates and keys?β–Ά

Crates give a chance at cosmetic and gameplay rewards when opened with a matching key. You can pick up keys with either currency:

Do I get anything for logging in each day?β–Ά

Yes β€” a daily reward is available once every 24 hours.

  • /dailyClaim your daily reward
Can I play chat minigames?β–Ά

Watch the chat β€” trivia and typing challenges appear automatically from time to time. Just type your answer in chat to enter; no command needed.

How do I support the server / get cosmetic perks?β–Ά

You can support Globeworks through our store for cosmetic and convenience perks.

  • /buyOpen the store
Investing
How do I start investing?β–Ά

Open the investment menu, click the Paper item to enter an amount, then confirm on the next screen. Nothing is invested until you click the green glass on the confirm screen.

  • /investOpen the investment menu
How does the confirm screen work?β–Ά

After you type an amount, a confirmation menu appears with three options: red glass cancels with no changes made, paper shows the amount you're about to invest, and green glass confirms and locks it in.

How do my earnings grow?β–Ά

Every second, your investment earns invested_amount Γ— invest-rate. On this server the rate is 0.00001. Payouts are calculated every second and added to your available earnings.

InvestedPer secondPer minutePer hour
1,0000.010.6036
10,0000.106.00360
100,0001.0060.003,600
1,000,00010.00600.0036,000
How do I collect my earnings?β–Ά

Open /invest and click the Chest icon to claim whatever earnings have built up. Collecting doesn't touch your invested amount β€” only the earnings on top of it.

What is Auto-Collect?β–Ά

The glass pane below the Chest icon toggles Auto-Collect. Green means earnings are paid straight to your balance automatically, with no need to open the menu. Red means earnings sit in the GUI until you manually collect them. Click it any time to switch between the two.

Can I add more money to an existing investment?β–Ά

Yes. Click the Paper item again from the main menu and enter the extra amount β€” it goes through the same confirm screen and adds to what you already have invested.

Is there a limit on how much I can invest?β–Ά

Yes. The server-configured max is currently 1,000,000. If you try to invest past that, the plugin won't let you exceed it.

How do I get my money out?β–Ά

Click the Redstone Block on the main menu to delete your investment.

This gives no refund. Deleting wipes your invested principal completely β€” it does not return the money to your balance. Only delete if you're sure, and make sure to collect any pending earnings first, since those aren't affected but your principal is gone for good.

Will I lose my investment if the server restarts or crashes?β–Ά

No. Your investment and earnings are saved to disk whenever you invest, collect, or the server shuts down, so they persist across restarts.

Quick referenceβ–Ά
  • /investOpens your investment menu
Storage, Warps & Protection
Can I get extra storage?β–Ά

PlayerVaults gives you extra chest-style storage beyond your inventory and Ender Chest. The number of vaults you can open depends on your rank β€” see Ranks & Perks.

  • /pv <number>Open one of your vaults
Can I create my own warp for others to visit?β–Ά
  • /pwarp listBrowse player-created warps
  • /pwarp <name>Teleport to a player warp
  • /pwarp create <name>Create your own player warp (rank permitting)
How do I lock my chests and doors?β–Ά

Place a sign on a chest, door, or trapdoor with [Private] on the first line to lock it to you.

  • [Private]Sign text to lock a container/door to yourself
  • [More Users]Sign text (on a second sign) to add trusted players, one per line below
What are the security scanners?β–Ά

Some entrances can be protected by your own inventory scanners. Right-click the button and it'll check your inventory (including your armour and offhand) for banned items. If you're clean, you'll get a success sound and particle effect and the gate will open. If you're carrying something banned, you'll get a fail effect instead and the gate stays shut.

What happens if I fail a scan?β–Ά

Nothing is taken from you automatically β€” the scan just tells you (and the gate) that something in your inventory isn't allowed through. Turn around and store or drop the flagged items somewhere safe, then try again once your cooldown is up.

How do I set up my own security scanner?β–Ά

If your rank has scanner permissions, you can build your own security checkpoint. You'll need a button and a redstone-powered mechanism (like a door or piston gate) already built.

  1. Create the scanner: Look directly at the button you want to use, then run /sd create <name> β€” pick any name to identify it (e.g. vault_gate).
  2. Choose what gets detected: Run /sd setitems <name> to open a chest-style GUI. Place the items you want to flag (weapons, TNT, etc.) into the GUI, then hit Save. Anything not in that list is ignored.
  3. Set the redstone output: Look at the redstone block, lever, or wire that should trigger on a successful scan, then run /sd setoutput <name>. This has to be within a limited distance of the button (check with staff if it's not being accepted β€” there's a max range).
  4. Set the pulse length (optional): /sd setduration <name> <ticks> controls how long the redstone output stays powered β€” useful for timing a door to stay open long enough to walk through (20 ticks = 1 second).
  5. Set a cooldown (optional): /sd setcooldown <name> <seconds> stops players spamming the button.
  6. Turn it on: /sd enable <name>. It's disabled by default when first created, so don't forget this step.

Once enabled, anyone who right-clicks the button gets scanned for the items you set β€” pass and the redstone fires, fail and it doesn't. See "What are the security scanners at gates?" above for what players experience when using one.

Can I manage or remove my scanner later?β–Ά

Yes β€” a few useful commands for scanners you own:

  • /sd info <name> β€” see its current settings
  • /sd list β€” see all scanners you own
  • /sd disable <name> β€” temporarily turn it off without deleting it
  • /sd scans <name> β€” view the last 10 scans, including what items were flagged on any failures
  • /sd delete <name> β€” remove it entirely

Heads up: breaking the button itself also deletes the scanner automatically, so don't remove the button unless you mean to take the whole thing down.

Passports & Lectern Scanners
What are lectern scanners for?β–Ά

A lectern scanner checks a signed book against a required pattern and, when it matches, triggers a hidden mechanism nearby β€” a gate, door, or similar. Around Globeworks you'll find them used for things like border checkpoints and event ticket gates.

How do I get through a checkpoint or into an event?β–Ά

You'll need a matching signed book β€” usually handed out as a "passport" or "ticket" by staff or whoever set the checkpoint up. Simply place the book into the lectern; no command is needed.

If it matches, the mechanism triggers and stays active for a short time so you can get through. If nothing happens, the book doesn't match, you may be blocked from that particular scanner, or it's on cooldown β€” try again shortly, or ask whoever runs the checkpoint.

Can I set up my own scanner?β–Ά

Yes β€” from Governor rank onwards. See Ranks & Perks for how to reach Governor.

How do I set up a scanner?β–Ά

All commands use the main /lecternscanner command (or the shorter /ls). Basic setup:

  • /lecternscanner create <name>Look at a lectern and run this to create your scanner β€” you become its owner
  • /lecternscanner setpattern <name> <page>Hold the signed book with your required pattern, then run this specifying which page of the book to use
  • /lecternscanner setoutput <name>Look at the block you want powered on a successful scan (e.g. redstone under a gate) and run this β€” it can be hidden under floors or behind walls

Optional tweaks once the basics are working:

  • /lecternscanner setauthor <name> <author>Require a specific book author, not just the pattern
  • /lecternscanner setduration <name> <ticks>How long the output stays powered after a successful scan
  • /lecternscanner setcooldown <name> <seconds>Per-player cooldown between scans
  • /lecternscanner setsize <name> <n>Change the expected pattern size (an NΓ—N square)

Managing access and day-to-day upkeep:

  • /lecternscanner block <name> <player> / unblockDeny (or re-allow) a specific player on that scanner
  • /lecternscanner blocked <name>List everyone currently blocked
  • /lecternscanner enable <name> / disableTemporarily turn a scanner off without deleting it
  • /lecternscanner info <name>See a scanner's owner, author, page, output block, and blocked count
  • /lecternscanner scans <name>View the last 10 scan attempts (successes and fails)
  • /lecternscanner list mineList all the scanners you own
  • /lecternscanner delete <name>Permanently remove a scanner and its data β€” mining the lectern does the same
Worked examplesβ–Ά

Create a border checkpoint

# 1. Look at a lectern and create the scanner /lecternscanner create border_north # 2. Hold a signed book whose page 1 has your pattern, then: /lecternscanner setpattern border_north 1 # 3. Look at a redstone dust / torch location under the floor (within 5 blocks) /lecternscanner setoutput border_north # 4. Optional tweaks /lecternscanner setauthor border_north PassportOffice /lecternscanner setduration border_north 60 /lecternscanner setcooldown border_north 15

Players with a matching signed book can now insert it into the lectern to open the gate.

Block a troublemaker

/lecternscanner block border_north BadPlayer123 /lecternscanner blocked border_north

That player will get a deny message and the door will not open. Unblock later with:

/lecternscanner unblock border_north BadPlayer123

Check what's going on

/lecternscanner info border_north /lecternscanner scans border_north /lecternscanner list mine

Event entrance (temporary)

/lecternscanner create event_vip /lecternscanner setpattern event_vip 1 /lecternscanner setoutput event_vip /lecternscanner setcooldown event_vip 5 # After the event: /lecternscanner disable event_vip # or /lecternscanner delete event_vip

  • /crawlCrawl on the ground
Can I change my skin?β–Ά
  • /skin set <name>Change your skin to any Java username's skin
  • /skin clearReset to your default skin

Bedrock players keep their console/mobile skin automatically.

Are there vehicles I can drive?β–Ά

Yes β€” Globeworks has drivable vehicles with WASD-style controls, no command needed:

  • Right-clickWith a vehicle item in hand, place it down from your inventory
  • Right-clickOn a placed vehicle to get in and start driving with W A S D
  • Crouch (sneak)Get out β€” the vehicle returns straight to your inventory
What's the capture net for?β–Ά

A capture net (safari net) lets you catch mobs to take with you. Throw it at a mob to capture it β€” no command needed.

What happens to my items if I die?β–Ά

Normally you drop your items on death. If you're carrying a Keep Inventory Token, one is automatically consumed the moment you die to preserve your inventory β€” no command needed, nothing to activate in advance.

Can my rank give me temporary flight?β–Ά

Some ranks grant a limited amount of flight time, which recharges over time.

  • /fly displayToggle a display showing your remaining flight time
Where can I see how I rank up against other players?β–Ά

Server leaderboards are shown at spawn via NPCs β€” visit them to see the top players in each category.
