Shop Guide
Buy and sell items in the server shops. Prices move with supply and demand, so what you do affects what everyone pays.
Everything is done through menus. Browse a shop, click an item, and buy or sell it. Each item has a buy price (what you pay) and a sell price (what you get), and both change as players trade.
- Sell an item and the shop's stock goes up, so its price goes down.
- Buy an item and the stock goes down, so its price goes up.
Items that are in short supply get more valuable, and items that are flooded onto the market get cheaper.
About the numbers on this page: they are the standard settings. Staff can change them, and each shop can have its own rules, so if something differs in-game, the in-game message wins.
- /dsOpen the shop start page (or the default shop)
- /shopSame as /ds
- /shop <name>Open a specific shop
- /ds shop <name>Same as /shop <name>
/dynamicshop works the same as /ds.
Find the best deal for an item you're holding
On the start page, click an item in your own inventory to find the shop with the best deal for it. Left-click to look for a place to buy it, right-click to look for a place to sell it.
Inside a shop, clicking an item in your own inventory takes you straight to the page where that item is listed.
Each item shows its live prices and a few details:
| You'll see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Buy: … | What you pay to buy one |
| Sell: … | What you receive for selling one. Any sales tax is shown next to it, e.g. (-tax 25%) |
| Stock: … | How many the shop currently has. Some items show Infinite |
| A crossed-out price | A discount. The old price is crossed out and the new one is next to it |
| ⬆ / ⬇ percent | How far today's price is from the normal price (see Random daily prices below) |
| Purchase / sales limit | How many you can still buy or sell, and when the limit resets |
Page button: left-click for the previous page, right-click for the next page.
Some shops have opening hours. If a shop is closed you'll be told when it opens. Staff can also close a shop temporarily.
- Open a shop with /shop and find your item.
- Click the item to open the trade screen.
- Pick how many to buy or sell (usually 1 up to 64 at a time).
- You'll get a chat message confirming what you bought or sold, the price, and your new balance.
The trade screen also shows your balance. Want a lot at once? Use the stack button to choose a quantity in stacks, then confirm.
Good to know:
- Some items are buy-only (you can't sell them back) and others are sell-only (you can't buy them).
- Exact items only. The shop matches the whole item, including custom names, lore and enchantments. Only the exact item that's listed can be sold back.
- If you can't afford the full amount, you may be asked to confirm a smaller purchase before any money is taken.
- If your inventory is full, the purchase won't go through.
- The shop stops buying an item once its stock reaches the shop's maximum. Come back later or try another shop.
You don't have to browse a shop to sell. These shortcuts find a shop that buys your item and sell it for you:
- /sell handSell the stack in your hand
- /sell handallSell every item like the one in your hand
- /sell allSell everything a shop will buy. Other items stay in your inventory
- /ds qsellOpen the Quick Sell menu
- /sellguiOpen a menu where you drop in items to sell
Quick Sell menu
The menu lists the items in your inventory that shops will buy.
- Left-click sells all items of that type.
- Shift + left-click sells only the stack you clicked.
- Right-click takes you to that item's shop.
Sell menu
Put the items you want to sell into the top part of the window, then click the green Sell button. Click the red Cancel button (or just close the menu) to get your items back. Shulker boxes and bundles sell their contents only, and you keep the empty box.
Nothing sells for free. If an item's payout would be 0, it isn't taken. It stays in your inventory.
If another plugin also uses /sell, type /dynamicshop:sell all instead.
| What happens | Effect on price |
|---|---|
| Players sell lots of an item | Stock rises, so the price falls |
| Players buy lots of an item | Stock falls, so the price rises |
| Time passes with no trading | In shops with stock stabilising, stock slowly drifts back toward its normal level, and so does the price |
Each item has a normal stock level. Above it the price drops, and below it the price climbs. Prices move gradually, so one trade won't change much, but a big sell-off will.
Random daily prices
Some shops roll a random percentage on top of their prices on a schedule (daily, weekly or monthly). On those shops you'll see today's price with an arrow showing the change, and the normal price underneath:
Buy: 55 ⬆10%
Normal buy: 50
While this is on, an item's sell price is never higher than its buy price, so you can't make money by buying and selling the same item back and forth.
Rotations
Some shops rotate which items are on offer, so check back regularly.
Sales tax
A sales tax is taken when you sell to a shop. The standard rate is 25%, and the sell line on each item shows the tax, e.g. (-tax 25%). Buying isn't taxed. A shop can also use its own rate.
Local and sign shops
Some shops can only be used in person. A local shop must be visited at its real location, and a sign shop is opened by clicking its sign.
Delivery charge
Some local shops let you pay a delivery fee to trade from a distance. The fee is shown in chat when it applies. It can't be used to trade with a shop in another world.
- Per-player limits. Some items cap how many you can buy or sell in a period. The item tooltip shows how many you have left and when the limit resets.
- Out of stock. If an item is sold out, you'll see Out of stock! and can't buy it until someone sells more.
- Opening hours. A closed shop tells you when it opens again.
- Permissions. A shop may require a particular rank or permission to use.
- Shop funds. Some shops pay you from their own account, so a shop with an empty account can't buy from you until it has more money. The trade screen shows the shop's balance.
Most shops use the normal server money, shown with a currency symbol such as $. A shop can use a different currency, and its prices will show the unit, such as:
- Exp, for experience points
- JP, for Jobs points
- PP, for PlayerPoints
- Other server currencies, such as coins, gems or tokens
Your balance for that shop's currency is shown in the trade screen, and in the confirmation message after each trade.
Some items in a shop aren't a normal item. Instead of handing you the item shown, buying it runs a reward or action, once for each one you buy. These can't be sold back to the shop. Their tooltip explains what they do.
- /dsOpen the shop start page
- /shop [name]Open a shop
- /ds qsellQuick Sell menu
- /sellguiDrop in items and sell them all at once
- /sell handSell the stack in your hand
- /sell handallSell every item like the one in your hand
- /sell allSell everything the shops will buy
- Prices are a conversation. If everyone sells the same item, its price drops, so try items nobody is selling.
- Compare shops. The start-page inventory click shows who offers the best deal.
- Selling in smaller batches over time usually earns more than dumping a huge stack at once.
- Watch the tax. The sell price shown already has it taken off.
- Check the buy and sell prices before you click. A big gap between them is the shop's margin.
I can't sell my item
The shop may not buy that exact item, its stock may already be at the maximum, it may be a buy-only item, or the shop may be closed. Items with custom names or enchantments only sell to a shop that lists that exact item. Try /ds qsell to see which of your items can be sold.
My /sell didn't take everything
/sell all only sells what a shop buys, and never sells anything for 0. Everything else stays in your inventory.
I can't open a shop
It may be closed, outside its opening hours, restricted to a rank, or a local or sign shop that you need to visit in person.
The price changed after I clicked
Prices move as players trade. The confirmation message in chat shows the price you actually paid or received.
