Tickets & Passports Guide

Buy tickets, passports, and visas from special lecterns, then present them at scanners to open doors, gates, and borders. Town and nation leaders can also set up their own printers and scanners.

The Basics

Some lecterns on the server are special machines. There are two kinds:

MachineWhat it does
PrinterSells or issues tickets, passports, visas, and similar documents as signed books.
ScannerChecks a signed book you place on it. If it matches, a door, gate, or barrier can open.

You’ll usually buy a document at a printer, then present it at a scanner when you need to pass a checkpoint.

Buying a Ticket or Passport

When a printer is set to sell mode, anyone can buy from it.

  1. Find the printer lectern (often at a station, embassy, or box office).
  2. Right-click the lectern.
  3. A confirmation screen appears showing the price.
  4. Confirm to pay and receive the book, or cancel to back out.

Good to know:

  • You need enough money in your balance to complete the purchase.
  • You cannot place a normal book on a sell-mode lectern — right-click to buy instead.
  • The document is usually a signed book with your name and a unique ID on it.
Using a Scanner

Scanners check whether the book you present is valid.

  1. Hold the signed ticket or passport in your hand.
  2. Right-click the scanner lectern (or place the book on it).
  3. If the book matches what the scanner expects, the scan succeeds and the linked door or gate can open.
  4. If it does not match, the scan fails and nothing opens.

Some scanners are set to one-time use. On those, a successful scan destroys the book so the same ticket cannot be reused.

Good to know:

  • There may be a short cooldown before you can scan again at the same machine.
  • A document that has been cancelled or reported lost will be rejected even if it looks correct.
  • Only signed books are checked — unsigned books will not work.
What the Documents Contain

Printed tickets and passports are normal Minecraft books. Typical contents include:

  • Your player name
  • Your town or nation (if the server fills those in)
  • The price you paid (on tickets)
  • A unique ID so the document can be tracked or cancelled if needed

Keep the book safe. If you lose it and it is cancelled, a scanner will no longer accept it even if you somehow get another copy of the same text.

How to Create a Passport System

If you run a nation or embassy and have the right permissions, you can set up your own passport printer and border scanner.

1. Create the passport printer

  1. Place a lectern where people will collect passports (embassy, capital building, etc.).
  2. Look at the lectern and run:
  • /ls printer create my_passport_officeCreates a printer on that lectern (use any name you like)

2. Write the passport template

Craft an unsigned book and write something like this (you can use more pages):

Page 1 (static — this is what the scanner will match):

OFFICIAL PASSPORT
Issued by YourNation
Valid for border entry

Page 2 (personal details):

Name: %player%
Town: %townyadvanced_town%
Nation: %townyadvanced_nation%
ID: %guid%

The important part: keep the text the scanner will check on a page that does not change per player. Put the unique ID and personal lines on a different page.

3. Save the template

  1. Look at your printer lectern.
  2. Run /ls printer (or right-click if you are the owner) to open the template slots.
  3. Place your unsigned book into one of the 9 slots.

4. Turn on selling (optional but usual)

  1. Look at the printer and run /ls sell.
  2. Turn sale mode ON.
  3. Choose the template slot, set a price, and decide whether sold books should be signed.
  4. Turn “notify owner” on if you want a message when someone buys.

Players can now right-click the lectern, pay, and receive a signed passport.

5. Create the border scanner

  1. Place a lectern at the gate or border.
  2. Look at it and run:
  • /ls scanner create border_gateCreates a scanner on that lectern
  1. Open the scanner config (/ls scanner while looking at it).
  2. Hold a finished, signed passport and set the pattern from the static page (page 1 in the example above).
  3. Optionally require a specific author (e.g. the nation name).
  4. Leave one-time OFF so the same passport can be used many times.

6. Link the scanner to a door or gate

  1. Look at the redstone block, iron door, or mechanism you want to power.
  2. Run:
  • /ls scanner setoutput border_gateSets the block you are looking at as the redstone output

When a valid passport is scanned, that block is powered for a short time and the door/gate can open.

How to Create a One-Time Event Ticket

Useful for concerts, festivals, fairs, or any paid entry that should only work once.

1. Create the box-office printer

  1. Place a lectern at the ticket booth.
  2. Look at it and run:
  • /ls printer create event_ticketsCreates the printer (pick any name)

2. Write the ticket template

In an unsigned book, write something like:

Page 1 (static — scanner pattern):

SUMMER FESTIVAL 2026
Official Entry Ticket
One admission only

Page 2 (personal):

Guest: %player%
Price: %price%
ID: %guid%

Again, keep the scanner pattern on a page that stays the same for every ticket.

3. Save the template and enable selling

  1. Look at the printer → /ls printer → put the book in a slot.
  2. Look at the printer → /ls sell.
  3. Turn sale mode ON, pick the slot, set the ticket price, and turn signed books ON.
  4. Turn owner notify on if you want to see each sale.

4. Create the entrance scanner (one-time)

  1. Place a lectern at the event entrance.
  2. Look at it and run:
  • /ls scanner create event_gateCreates the scanner
  1. Open the config with /ls scanner.
  2. Hold a finished signed ticket and set the pattern from the static page.
  3. Turn one-time ON — this destroys the book after a successful scan so it cannot be reused.
  4. Set the redstone output to the door or barrier:
  • /ls scanner setoutput event_gateWhile looking at the block that should be powered

Players buy at the box office, walk to the gate, present the ticket once, and the book is consumed as they enter.

Common Uses on the Server
SituationWhat you do
Border or checkpointBuy or receive a passport, then present it at the border scanner to open the gate.
Event or concertBuy a ticket at the box office, then scan it at the entrance (often one-time so the ticket is used up).
Station or tube ticketBuy a ticket from the station printer, then scan it at the platform barrier.
Toll road or bridgePresent a pass or ticket at the toll scanner to raise the barrier.
Quick Reference
  • Buy: Right-click a sell-mode printer lectern → confirm purchase.
  • Scan: Hold your signed ticket/passport → right-click the scanner lectern.
  • Success: Door or gate can open (and the book may be destroyed if the scanner is one-time).
  • Fail: Book does not match, is cancelled, or you are on a cooldown.

For owners setting things up:

  • /ls printer create <name>Create a printer on the lectern you look at
  • /ls scanner create <name>Create a scanner on the lectern you look at
  • /ls printerOpen template slots for the printer you look at
  • /ls sellOpen sell settings for the printer you look at
  • /ls scannerOpen scanner config for the scanner you look at
  • /ls scanner setoutput <name>Set redstone output to the block you look at
Tips
  • Always check you have enough money before confirming a purchase.
  • Keep important passports in a safe place — losing one that gets cancelled means you need a new one.
  • One-time scanners are common at events; don’t expect to reuse the same ticket.
  • If a scan fails, make sure you are holding the correct signed book and that it has not already been used or cancelled.
  • When designing templates, put the text the scanner checks on a page that never changes; put %player% and %guid% on another page.
  • Printers and scanners often have particle effects so you can tell them apart from ordinary lecterns.
