Pet Insurance Guide

Protect your tamed animals with prepaid insurance. While a policy is active, your pet takes no damage and outsiders cannot leash, name-tag, or capture it.

The Basics

Pet insurance is a prepaid policy on a tamed animal you own. You pay for a number of days up front. Until the policy expires (or you cancel it), that pet is fully protected.

While insuredWhat happens
DamageAll damage types are blocked — the pet stays invulnerable.
Other playersNon-owners cannot leash, name-tag, put it in a boat/minecart, or use capture-style items on it.
YouYou still own and control your pet as normal.

You can insure as many pets as you want. Each has its own policy and expiry.

How to Insure a Pet
  1. Stand near a tamed animal that belongs to you (wolf, cat, horse, etc.).
  2. Either:
    • Shift + right-click the pet, or
    • Look at the pet and run /petinsurance (or /pi).
  3. The Insurance GUI opens.
  4. Choose a package — for example 1 day, 7 days, or 30 days — or enter a custom number of days in chat when prompted.
  5. Confirm. The cost is taken from your balance and the policy starts immediately.

Good to know:

  • Cost is charged per day (server default is often around $10/day — check the GUI for the live price).
  • Maximum length is typically 365 days per purchase.
  • Only tamed pets you own can be insured.
The Insurance GUI

Opening the GUI on a pet (or from the list) shows:

  • Whether a policy is active
  • Expiry date and remaining days
  • Recent events (last 10) — e.g. blocked hits or capture attempts
  • Options to buy or extend coverage
  • Cancel — ends the policy early with a refund for full remaining days

Use cancel if you no longer need cover; you get money back for unused full days.

List All Your Policies
  • /petinsurance listList every pet you have insured
  • /pi listSame command (short alias)

From the list you can jump into a pet’s GUI to check status, extend, or cancel.

What Insurance Blocks

While a policy is active:

  • All damage — mobs, players, environment, etc. (particles and a sound can play when a hit is blocked)
  • Non-owner interactions — leash, name tag, boat, minecart, and generic item use that would move or capture the pet (including capture nets)

You can still interact with your own insured pets as the owner.

Notifications
  • Policy expiry — told straight away if you are online; otherwise when you next log in
  • Hit or capture attempt — immediate if online, or on login if you were away
  • Login summary — a short status of your policies when you join

Check /pi list or open a pet’s GUI if you want more detail than the login message.

Commands
  • /petinsuranceOpen the GUI for the pet you are looking at (or show help)
  • /petinsurance listList all your insured pets

Aliases: /pi, /petinsure.

You can also Shift + right-click your tamed pet to open the same GUI without typing a command.

Quick Reference
  • Insure: Shift + right-click your tamed pet → choose days → pay
  • List: /pi list
  • While active: no damage; outsiders cannot leash, name-tag, or capture
  • Cancel: open the GUI → cancel for a refund of remaining full days
  • Many pets: each has its own policy; list shows them all
Tips
  • Insure pets you take into the nether, events, or busy towns where grief or combat is more likely.
  • Buy longer policies for pets you leave at a base you visit less often, so you are not surprised by expiry.
  • After a blocked hit or capture attempt, open the GUI to see it in the recent events list.
  • Cancel early if you are retiring a pet — remaining full days are refunded.
  • Untamed or other players’ animals cannot be insured; only your own tamed pets.
