Nation History Guide
Open a live history book for your nation — or any other nation — and read the major events that shaped it: alliances, wars, peace deals, and more.
Every nation can have a history book. It is not a normal written book you craft — the server builds it from real events that have happened on the server (diplomacy changes, and other recorded history events).
When you run the history command, you get a book in your hands that you can flip through like any Minecraft book. Close it when you’re done; it is generated on demand, not left in your inventory as a permanent item.
| What you do | What you get |
|---|---|
| /history | Your own nation’s history book (if you are in a nation) |
| /history <nation> | That nation’s history book |
Your nation
- Make sure you are a member of a Towny nation.
- Run:
- /historyOpen your nation’s history book
The book opens in the normal book UI. Flip the pages to read past events.
Another nation
- Know the nation’s name (as used in Towny).
- Run:
- /history <nation>Open that nation’s history book
Example: /history Avalon
Good to know:
- If you are not in a nation, /history alone may not resolve a book — use /history <nation> instead.
- A nation with no recorded events yet will show an empty or very short book.
- The book is read-only; you cannot edit the history by writing in it.
History is filled automatically from server events. Typical entries include things such as:
- Alliances formed or broken
- Wars declared
- Peace accepted
- Other significant nation-related events the server records
Events are stored as they happen. Older diplomacy activity may also have been imported into the book when the system was first set up, so early pages can cover past alliances and wars as well as new ones.
There is no separate “write history” command for players in this phase — the chronicle grows from real gameplay, not from free-form notes.
- /historyOpen your nation’s history book
- /history <nation>Open another nation’s history book
That is all most players need. Opening a book only requires the normal history-use permission, which is available to players by default on this server.
You do not “set up” a history book per nation. As soon as events are recorded for your nation, they appear when anyone runs /history or /history YourNation.
- Forming alliances, declaring war, and making peace through Diplomacy are the main ways new pages get content.
- Encourage members to use Diplomacy properly so the public record stays accurate.
- Anyone can read any nation’s book — treat the history as a public chronicle of your relations.
Later features (not in this phase yet):
- Chapter GUIs, NPCs, lecterns, or a separate chronicle command are planned for later phases and are not available yet.
- /historyYour nation’s book
- /history <nation>Another nation’s book
- Book opens in the normal Minecraft book view.
- Content comes from live server events (e.g. diplomacy), not from player writing.
- Empty nations or new nations may have little or nothing recorded yet.
- Use history books before negotiations — see whether a nation has a long list of wars or stable alliances.
- New players can learn the server’s political story by reading major nations’ books.
- If a book looks empty, the nation may be new or events for it have not been recorded yet.
- Spell the nation name the way Towny uses it when using /history <nation>.
